Change to Requirements for Major in Statistics

Four credit units are required beyond the required prerequisite of STAT 613 (or completion of STAT 621/waiver of STAT fixed core requirement entirely). Some courses offered by other departments are permitted (students who wish to include courses from other departments in the major should request permission to include these from the Statistics Department advisor and file this permission with the MBA Program Office). Courses taken on a Pass/Fail basis cannot be counted toward the major. The Wharton MBA Resource Guide details all courses that are applicable to the major in Statistics.

The major advisor is Richard Waterman.

Penn Student Insurance Plan

The PSIP Health Insurance Fee of $1,624 was automatically assessed after September 1st if you did not waive the University health insurance.  Please be sure to review your student bill on Penn.Pay and schedule all required payments before the billing due date of September 25, 2015.

Global and Domestic Modular Classes

Registration for the Winter Break courses is now open and will close on Monday, September 28 at 9 am (EDT). Registration for courses to be taught during March and May will take place later.  Both Winter Break and March courses will be listed as spring semester classes. In the links below, we have provided the most recent syllabus currently available, in most cases it is the syllabus from the last time the course was taught.

Please click here to enter your preferences for the Winter Break courses only. You may enter your ranked interest in as many courses as you wish. Please be certain of your intent to take the course when you complete the form.  Once the registration closes you will receive an email shortly after informing you of your status in the course and requesting you confirm your interest in the class. You will be registered in the class once you confirm your interest. We will do our best to accommodate all demand in these courses, and will resort to a lottery (with preference for second year students) if the courses are oversubscribed.  Please contact Paula Greenberg for more information.

Quiet Study Space

Facilities and Operations has set aside classrooms that can be used for quiet study. Click here for the daily list.  You can also find the list published on Spike via the MBA Program Office tab under the "Quick Links" section.

Other areas within the University can also be used for study or meetings.  Click here for more info!  And don't forget about Hoover Lounge!

Penn To Suspend Normal Operations On Friday, September 25, 2015

Due to anticipated logistical and transportation issues related to the historic visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia, the University will suspend normal operations on Friday, September 25. As a result, classes and University-sponsored events are cancelled on this date.

Designated essential personnel — including offices such as but not limited to Public Safety, Dining Services, and Facilities that provide essential services, University emergency personnel, and those responsible for the health and safety of students and lab animals — will be required to report to work and should consult with their supervisors about accommodations and scheduling. Other staff members, faculty members, and students should treat the day under the same protocols as a weather-related suspension of operations.

With as many as 2 million people expected to attend the weekend’s events in Philadelphia, faculty and staff could notice some transportation delays beginning earlier that week.  Road closures around Center City and in the West Philadelphia area could begin as early as Thursday night after rush hour.  We urge all faculty and staff to pay close attention to traffic and transportation plans that will soon be finalized by the City and SEPTA.

We know that the weekend of the Pope’s visit will create some inconveniences and challenges for members of the Penn community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as the University works with the City in accommodating visitors during this very special event.

Leadership Program Updates:
  • GUIDE Application is open until September 18.
  • Ventures Expedition Scholarship Winners Announced – Tuesday, September 22
  • We have several Venture Info sessions throughout the next week. Please check the Spike Calendar.
STUDENT LIFE
2401 Walnut

Dear Students,

Due to the papal visit, the 2401 Walnut main entrance doors and elevators will be locked all day on Friday, September 25th. Please remember to bring your key fobs to gain access to the building. Building management tells us there is a possibility these doors and elevators will also be closed on Monday, September 28th. Either way, 2401 will still be accessible via key fob.

*Also, please note: The Walnut Street doors will be physically locked from 5pm Thursday until Monday morning. Anyone wishing to exit the building during this time must use the Main Entrance.*

Thank you!
