Math for Business

Math for Business is an online refresher course designed to incorporate key quantitative concepts as identified by Wharton faculty who teach in the core curriculum.

Math for Business will supplement your preparation for the Wharton academic experience. You can study the subjects at your own pace and review the video material as you see fit. Math for Business will also prepare you for an exam to be taken at the end of course. This is a diagnostic exam and it is mandatory for all entering MBA students that must be taken prior to July 25, 2015.

Math for Business and the math diagnostic exam are hosted on Canvas, the University of Pennsylvania’s learning management system. You will need your PennKey and password to login to the system.

ACCT603: Basic Accounting

This online course will prepare you for the required core classes in Accounting, either ACCT611 or ACCT613. Any student who wishes to enroll in either of these courses must first complete ACCT603. We anticipate the course should take about five hours in total to complete.

We strongly recommend that you complete this requirement before Pre-Term because after August 4 your life is going to get a LOT busier.

If you place into ACCT612: Accelerated Financial Accounting or waive the Accounting requirement by exam you may substitute either ACCT604 or ACCT608 for this course. If you waive Accounting by credential, there is no prep requirement.

For more information, refer to pages 13 & 22 of Let’s Get Started.

Waiver & Placement Prep Courses
July 29 – July 31 at Wharton

Need a refresher in Accounting, Statistics and/or Finance before attempting a waiver or placement exam? Wharton will host exam prep courses for the Accounting and Statistics waiver and placement exams as well as the Finance placement exam on-campus between July 29 & July 31. These courses will be available for registration in mid-June.

See the Waiver Guide and pages 13 through 15 of Let’s Get Started for more information.

Let’s Get Started

This document is the definitive resource for navigating your “pre-Wharton” experience. We strongly advise that you read it cover to cover. Since it contains information pertaining to the core curriculum, you will undoubtedly refer back to it even after your arrival.

MBA Resource Guide – Class of 2017

This publication will serve as an invaluable resource throughout your Wharton experience. It contains information pertaining to the rules and policies that give structure to the MBA experience. We’ll discuss each of these policies more during Pre-Term. In the Resource Guide you will also find the requirements for each of the eighteen different majors offered at Wharton.

Let’s Get Started and the MBA Resource Guide will be mailed to your attention in a single packet at the end of May. Depending on the postal service in your part of the world, you should receive them by mid-June. The .pdf files linked here are exact replicas of the documents mailed.

If June 15 comes and goes and you still haven’t received this packet, let us know by sending an email to:
mbaprogram@wharton.upenn.edu.

Waiver Guide

Here you will find all the information you need to determine whether or not you can waive a core course and if so, how.

Waiver Exam Guide

Sample exams and solution sets for courses that can be waived. The study materials in this publication may help you determine whether or not you are ready to sit for a waiver exam and can also guide your preparation.

Remember, all waiver & placement exams will take place on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4, prior to the start of Pre-Term.

This is the only time the exams will be offered and there are no make-ups.

MBA Program Bi-Weekly Emails

During the academic year, you’ll come to expect weekly emails from the MBA Program Office. These emails will consolidate programmatic announcements and policy clarifications into a single message sent to each student at the end of the academic week (typically Thursday evenings). During the summer, we’ll send a similar email to you every other week. We’ll also store them here for your reference:
