Description
Through two distinct fellowship offerings, the goal of the Nonprofit Board Fellows (NBF) at the Wharton School is to create an experiential learning environment for students who want to support local nonprofits. Students with no prior nonprofit board experience can apply to become a Nonprofit Board Fellow, in which they are matched to a nonprofit board in the greater Philadelphia area for one year and where they serve in the role of “visiting board member.” Students with prior nonprofit board experience can apply to lead the program by joining as an Executive Committee Fellow.
Duties
Receive extensive training to prepare you to be a visiting board member · Be matched with a local non-profit organization based on your interests and experience · Serve on a board subcommittee based on your interests and functional preferences · Share experiences through monthly fellowship-wide meetings to understand the challenges of other local organizations · Network with local community and business leaders · Engage in a unique opportunity to develop your leadership skills while giving back to the community For Executive Committee Fellows: Receive training to serve the nonprofit board fellows as a peer coach and facilitator · Select their class of nonprofit board fellows · Lead development of board fellow community and culture

Commitment Time/Dates
- Students must attend: Kickoff event All Training Sessions (1 full day and 4 evenings in April, 1 full day in September)
- All Board and relevant committee meetings
- 6 small group “pod” meetings
- 6 All-Fellows Meetings-3rd Tuesday of each month, September-April Approximately 10-15 hours per month
