Understanding the Corporate Finance Flexible Core Requirement
These courses serve as an introduction to business finance (corporate financial management and investment) for both non-majors and majors preparing for upper-level coursework. The primary objective is to provide a framework, concepts, and tools for analyzing financial decisions based on fundamental principles of modern financial theory.
Substitution By Credentials
While it is not possible to waive the Corporate Finance requirement in its entirety, students will have the option to take one of two upper level finance electives if they have met the following criteria: 1) completed an undergraduate degree with a major in either business or finance; 2) have passed all three CFA exams; or 3) have four or more years of professional experience in the finance industry.
Students who submit credentials that meet the above criteria will be permitted to substitute the Corporate Finance core class by completing either FNCE 720: Investment Management or FNCE 726: Advanced Corporate Finance. The substitution class can be taken at any time during the student’s four semesters.
IMPORTANT: If submitting a transcript, please highlight/annotate that a Finance major or business degree was earned. If submitting a resume, please highlight the corresponding work experience. Provide any other supporting documentation as you see fit. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in your request being declined.
