Core Requirement Evaluation Process

This is your opportunity to customize your core experience. We encourage you to leverage this guide to fully understand your options and decide what is best for you.

Notice about Upcoming Placement, Waiver, and Substitution Exams

Exam Timeslots:

For each Waiver, Placement, Substitution exam, there are two timeslots on the day of the exam: 8:00AM – 12:00PM ET and 8:00PM – 12:00AM ET. You may choose to take the exam during one of the timeslots – you do not need to register for a specific timeslot, just the exam.
The deadline to register for an exam is at 3PM ET the day of the exam. This will allow you to sit for the 8:00PM – 12:00AM ET timeslot.

Exam Timing and Completion:

Please give yourself enough time to complete your exam. Once you open the exam, your time limit will automatically begin. Be mindful of the set duration of the exam (1-2hours) AND the close time of your chosen timeslot (12PM or 12AM ET). For example, if your exam is two hours and you begin at 10:30 AM, you will only have 1.5 hours to complete the exam as it will close at 12 PM.

Statistics Waiver Exam:

The STAT 6210 Placement Exam is the first half (1 hour) of the STAT 6130 Waiver Exam (2 hours). You do not need to register for or take two exams.
Taking the waiver exam does not preclude you from placing into STAT 6210 – you will be evaluated for both via the one 2 hour exam. If you do not score high enough to waive STAT 6130, you may still score high enough to place into STAT 6210.

Keep in Mind

Your decisions to customize your core curriculum should be based upon your familiarity with the subject. If you have studied or have professional certification in a particular area, we encourage you to submit your credentials and/or take an exam.

Participating in this process offers optionality.  The decision to enroll in a core course that you have waived or substituted is ultimately up to you; if you would like a review of a subject, or to learn about Wharton’s approach to it in preparation for advanced electives, you can choose to enroll in the core course.

Taking the full core is a common experience for many students. Students who are new to business education often take the entire core curriculum and students who have some educational background may only waive or substitute one core course. You will still have plenty of space to fulfill a major and take elective courses.
